top wilmington wedding vendors

  • Wilmington NC Wedding Photographer | BEST OF 2021

WHAT A WILD YEAR! It was the first year “back to normal” after 2020, and it at NO POINT actually turned fully normal. I just want to thank all of my couples who stuck with it, pivoted their original wedding plan and tried to mold it into whatever was acceptable at the time, and really went with the flow of these weird times in our world. I am grateful to work with people who clearly could handle every curve ball that was thrown their way, every vendor who helped bring their day together, and every guest who showed up for their people. 2021 was hands down the best year I’ve ever had in business, and I couldn’t have done it without any of you. Thank you to the people who shared my posts, told their friends about me, who saw me working at another wedding and then went on to hire me, and to those of you who simply follow my social media accounts and “like” my posts. None of it goes unnoticed. Small businesses are hard. They were especially harder to run after 2020, and I think we really nailed it in 2021. I’m sharing my favorite images from weddings last year. There’s no way I can properly tag all the vendors, but just know you are appreciated. And to my couples: thank you. There aren’t enough words that I can say to express my gratitude, but you have turned one person’s dream into a reality, and because of you I get to do what I love and call it my full time job. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Now let’s do this, 2022!

  • Saint Thomas Preservation Hall Wedding Photographer | Jessie & Owen

Saint Thomas Preservation Hall was LIT UP and GLOWING with pleeeeenty of champagne popping for Jessie and Owen’s New Years Eve wedding this year. I’m always hesitant to accept a New Years Eve wedding because it can be CHAOS – but Jessie and Owen did it PERFECTLY. Not only were they the most laid back couple to work with and they were just absolutely down to go with the flow and take any suggestions and recommendations from me as they planned, but it all came together beautifully! An incredible team of vendors, paired with the coolest couple, the most fun bridal party, and a whole room full of guests just ready to get the party started. I had SO much fun on that dance floor with everyone, and they had an exit that I have never done before, probably never will get to see again, and I KNOW I will never forget. Instead of doing a sparkler exit, the decided to pass out what was I believe 24 bottles of Champagne to their guests, while Owen sliced one of them open with a sword, while everyone else popped their bottles simultaneously, just exploding it absolutely everywhere, and it was magical. The photos are chaos and magic all at the same time. Seriously, I’ve never seen a couple so willing to allow their guests to completely cover them in Champagne before. Props to these two. I loved every single thing about it.

  • Station No. 2 Wedding Photographer | Kate & Britt

Kate & Britt had a very small and intimate wedding ceremony at Station No. 2 in downtown Wilmington, North Carolina. I had the pleasure of photographing this gorgeous event, and I absolutely love being there on a wedding day like this one. Surrounded by only the closest people to them, they said their I-do’s and then sat down for one of the most delicious looking meals I’ve ever seen prepared at a wedding – which was actually the very FIRST wedding that True Blue catered, and I can’t say enough positive reviews about them! The decor was stunning, all of which was created by Amani Affairs, another company that I simply cannot talk up enough. These two were so easy to work with, so easy going and so laid back. Talk about dream clients! Love wrapping up my 2021 season with couples like Kate and Britt. Now check out the highlights from their big day! And for any of you crazy One Tree Hill fans – pay attention, you just might recognize someone!

  • The Barn at Rock Creek Wedding Photographer | McKenzee & Taylor

McKenzee and Taylor got married in December at the LOVELY Barn at Rock Creek out in Leland, North Carolina. December weddings in North Carolina are actually incredible, because during the day it’s still sunny and gorgeous. And at night, all we need are a few heat lamps (sometimes we don’t even need that) and it’s enough to keep the party rocking outside all night! I absolutely loved working with these two, and every gorgeous detail of decor they picked out was PERFECT. The food, the drinks, the dancing – and have I mentioned the SNOW EXIT? Most people do a sparkler exit, but these two made it snow, instead. Highly recommend hiring a DJ with a snow machine, because this was SO MUCH FUN. Even the grandparents were twirling around in it. Maybe it helps that we don’t get to see a lot of snow in our area – LOL. Okay I’ll stop rambling but check out the highlights from their beautiful wedding day!!!

  • Jacksonville Country Club Wedding Photographer | Nikki & Bobby

Nikki and Bobby planned a gorgeous Christmas-themed wedding in Jacksonville, North Carolina in December. When I arrived at Jacksonville Country Club, I think it was somewhere around 75 degrees and we all laughed about the Christmas theme and our summer weather. Honestly, it was gorgeous. We were able to get some really fun faux-snow photos, we wrapped them in Christmas lights at one point, and they kissed under the mistletoe. It was seriously the most fun day – with the biggest dance party the entire night. They even played musical chairs at the reception – something I had never seen before and I LOVED it! I think my FAVORITE part was during their ceremony, when Bobby wrote vows to his new son-in-law, and I don’t believe there was a dry eye in the house. Shout out to Nikki for planning the coolest wedding, I loved every little detail and I had so much fun doing all the ring photos with all the Christmas decor. And I think there were somewhere around 5 Christmas trees scattered throughout the venue, it was perfect. Check out some of the highlights from their big day!!!

  • Ironclad Brewery Wedding Photographer | Marisa & Tyler

I love weddings at Ironclad Brewery in Downtown Wilmington. I used to work there for like, three years! So I really know how weddings flow there, I have TONS of favorite photo spots inside, as well as plenty of favorite areas outside all within a one block radius of the space! The giant ceilings and exposed brick walls make for such a great backdrop, and of course the endless flowing craft beer on tap. It’s not difficult to decorate this place and add a touch of greenery to make it pop, because everything already looks great on it’s own. Marisa & Tyler were an absolute blast to work with, so easy going and so much fun! They just trusted me completely to capture their day – and that’s all I can ever ask for! I loved every detail and I loved their fall colors, and I’m so glad we were finally able to make this day happen! It had been one of the postponed weddings from 2020, and I think it’s safe to say it was WORTH the wait! Here are some highlights of their big day!

  • The Atrium by Ligon Flynn Wedding Photographer | Kinsey & Nate

Honestly? Kinsey and Nate’s wedding (at the Atrium by Ligon Flynn in downtown Wilmington) was like, one of the most fun days ever. I just absolutely adore these two. Some clients you just CLICK WITH and want to keep being friends after the wedding is over – and these are those people!!! Not only was every single detail of the wedding STUNNING, just watching these two promise forever to each other was incredible. Their love is SO BIG, it filled the whole room. I love photographing downtown because not only are the venues themselves beautiful, but so is the entire area. We were able to walk around downtown to grab portraits, bridal party photos, and even catch the sunset on the river. Making a little extra time in your day to squeeze in sunset photos is… I promise… ALWAYS WORTH IT. Thank you thank you thank you to Kinsey and Nate for taking me in like one of the fam, and I’m SO HAPPY for you both! I can’t wait for you guys to be townies with me and we can go ahead and start being bffs already.

  • Rosary Cathedral & The Venues Toledo Wedding Photographer | Grace & Grant

In October, I had the opportunity to travel back to Toledo, Ohio to photograph Grace & Grant’s wedding day! They had their ceremony at the absolutely STUNNING Rosary Cathedral in downtown Toledo, followed by a reception at the Venues. It was my first time at the Venues because it was a new venue that popped up after I moved away! It was SO COOL! I love downtown Toledo, so it gave us opportunities to stop by the Toledo Art Museum for portraits, and on a rainy day, their getting ready location of Hotel Renaissance was perfect for photographing them in indoor spaces and a couple covered outdoor spaces! I am still in awe of the beauty of Rosary Cathedral, and you can see for yourself by all the gorgeous ceremony photos. I absolutely LOVED all their decor and details at the reception, this was absolutely a wedding worth traveling for. And the extra awesome bonus: I grew up with the bride and her family, so I got to see everyone again years after I moved away!! Love a good reunion, and working with SUCH an awesome couple.

AND NOW FOR MY FAVORITE THING! Grace added on my film package to her wedding day, where I was able to bring my film camera and capture some special moments on 35mm as well. These are some of my FAVORITE images. There is nothing like the quality of film, nothing matches it in my opinion. I’m so glad she agreed with me and added this onto her special day!!

  • Best Locations in Wilmington NC for Photo Sessions | Lightbloom Photography

Hey y’all! I’m Allison! I’m a professional wedding photographer located in Wilmington, NC. I get this question on the daily: do you have any recommendations for locations for our photo session? OF COURSE I DO! I’ve been photographing in Wilmington since 2016 and I’ve been to my fair share of photo locations throughout the years. Of course every location has perks and downfalls, but it’s really all about how much you love the backgrounds! Are you more of a beach person or a downtown person? Is there anywhere special in town that means a lot to you guys? On this post I will lay out all the details about my favorite photo locations in town, and I’ll fill you in on all the little secrets about each one!

    AIRLIE GARDENS
    300 Airlie Rd, Wilmington, NC

Pros: Every square inch of this place is covered in stunning greenery. This is your ideal location if you want to be surrounded in big lush trees, tropical plants, and plenty of Spanish moss. Parking is free on site. Once you reserve your session, they don’t allow two photographers on site at one time, so you will be the only people in the gardens taking photos, which is very nice, and a luxury that doesn’t happen at ANY other location in town. You still may have garden visitors walking by during photos but I’ve never had it be an issue. There is ample shade provided from all the trees so you aren’t stuck in the direct sun. Definitely my favorite location for bridal portraits.

Cons: There is a $100 fee (paid for by the client) for a 1 hour portrait session. You must make a reservation and you can only book during their open hours of 9:00-5:00 which isn’t always ideal for that harsh summer sunshine – it can be brutal there in July and August. But it’s still worth it.

    THE CARGO DISTRICT
    1605 Queen St, Wilmington, NC

Pros: Modern and industrial sets of local businesses and open outdoor spaces to provide plenty of natural light with refurbished shipping containers as backdrops. Heavily decorated with greenery from the local shops. I love the Cargo District for headshots, smaller groups, branding photos, or engagement photos. Grab a beer or a coffee for some of the photos! Parking is free along Queen Street, or in the gravel lots for Cheesesmith or Alcove Beer Garden.

Cons: Not super open spaces for larger families or groups, and they are all public businesses so you will have other people around, but if you plan accordingly (say, daytime on a weekday) you’ll have lots of space to yourself! I’ve never had it be TOO crowded on a photo session there!

    CAROLINA BEACH & BOARDWALK
Carolina Beach Ave S, Carolina Beach, NC

Pros: Not only is there beach access right here, but the boardwalk out to the beach is very pretty and recently redone. It’s lined with palm trees and there are some cute brightly colored walls to stop in front of for photos on the way out to the beach. You can always stop for ice cream or the infamous Brit’s donuts during photos! If you’re planning photos during the summer, you can always plan to stop by the fair, as well. I’ve always thought that would make the cutest night time backdrop all lit up with fair rides!

Cons: Parking is charged hourly, and there are only a couple public lots nearby but as long as you go on a weeknight or a non-holiday weekend then you should be able to find a spot nearby. It can get very crowded over the summers, but weeknights are always best. Carolina Beach can have some strange characters walking around, but it’s all part of the *charm* right!? LOL

    DOWNTOWN WILMINGTON
    Front St, Wilmington, NC

Pros: There is so much southern charm and history in these old buildings downtown. Plenty of ivy covered walls and brightly colored doors, white picket fences, brick roads, and pretty southern alley ways. The Riverwalk is also beautiful, especially at sunset as the sun sets over the Cape Fear River. Picking a location like this allows you to walk around downtown and get many different background opportunities and enjoying what downtown has to offer.

Cons: Parking is limited to street parking (but it’s only like $1.50/hour or something like that) which is free after 6:30 pm, or one of the three parking decks that give the first 90 minutes free. It’s usually not a challenge to find a spot on a weekday or weeknight unless there’s an event going on. Weekends are much more difficult and full of people to dodge in your backgrounds!

    FIGURE 8 ISLAND, NC
    15 Bridge Rd, Wilmington, NC

Pros: It’s a completely private island that can only be accessed by anyone who owns a home out there or is currently renting. The beach is always completely open and not surrounded in tourists, even during peak seasons, even when the beach is at it’s most full (4th of July weekend), it’s still ten times less crowded than Wrightsville Beach. Even just the streets are gorgeous and lined with greenery and the very North end has the best sunset views!

Cons: You can only get on the island if you know someone who lives there – that’s it. That’s the only negative.

    FORT FISHER STATE HISTORIC SITE
1610 Fort Fisher Blvd S, Kure Beach, NC

Pros: The best of both worlds at this beautiful historic site, it’s got the beach on one side and it’s full of absolutely stunning greenery and trees on the other side. You’ve got nature at it’s finest out here, along with a whole row of windswept trees that I’ve never seen anywhere else in the world. Parking is free and on weeknights there’s always plenty of room to find a spot, and not too crowded.

Cons: It is a very popular photo location, so I don’t suggest planning for a weekend or you’ll be dodging other photographers and people taking photos, and having to almost take turns in certain spots so you aren’t in each others photos. The bugs can be WILD. Especially at sunset, which is the best time for photos. Bring bug spray if you’re sensitive to it. There’s TONS of sand spurs and things like that can get tricky if you’re wearing sandals or heels or bringing your pups.

    GREENFIELD LAKE
    1739 Burnett Blvd, Wilmington, NC

Pros: Never crowded, so you have plenty of space to yourself. There will always be free parking, and half the time I just park along the street in a residential area. Lots of Spanish moss and tall trees and a lake and cute bridges to walk across. This is definitely the most woodsy location. Lots of tree coverage so even mid afternoon you’d get plenty of shade from the sun.

Cons: Can run into gators and homeless people. LOL. But really. Other than that there’s nothing really negative about this place.

    WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH – CRYSTAL PIER
703 S Lumina Ave, Wrightsville Beach, NC

Pros: Great classic beach spot and easily accessible right behind the restaurant, The Oceanic. Has a pier (this specific pier is free to access), a cute tall grassy area with lots of cacti, and has more parking areas than some other spots at the beach. Pro-tip, if you come early and go to the restaurant for food or drinks, you can park in their parking lot for free!

Cons: The beach can be WINDY! Like, majorly. It’s also a pretty popular spot (especially in the summers) so it’s not always easy to find parking during busy season, but I usually have more luck over here than other areas. Parking is $5.50/hour.

    WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH – SOUTH END
Jack Parker Blvd, Wrightsville Beach, NC

Pros: Hands down my favorite spot at Wrightsville for photos – or at any beach nearby for that matter. This spot has all the dreamiest beach views, AND the sun actually sets over the water out this way. Tall grasses, winding paths of sand, big rocks to climb, calm waters instead of huge waves. Usually a LOT less windy over here than other parts of the beach, too.

Cons: PARKING. In the summer, during full tourist season, this parking area can be a literal nightmare. I mean, I’ve seen people get out of their cars and yell at each other over parking here on a summer night. I’m not exaggerating when I say show up 20-30 minutes EARLY before your session here – or you WILL be late. This pretty much applies any day of the week, May through September. And you still have to pay $5.50/hour to park here, and just PRAY you find a spot! But I swear, it’s worth it!

  • Ironclad Brewery Wedding Photographer | Marie & Greg

Marie and Greg got married in October on a GORGEOUS fall afternoon. These two decided to start out the day by doing a first look and reading their vows to each other privately before the ceremony began. Then they walked down the aisle together, before heading over to Ironclad Brewery in downtown Wilmington to dance the night away with all their friends and family. An epic dance party, delicious cupcakes, and plenty of craft beer flowing from the taps! I love when people do their own thing on their wedding day instead of feeling like they have to keep it fully traditional – it makes it so much more unique to them! I had such a good time with these two all day – check out some highlights from their wedding!! Don’t miss their epic farewell with a smoke-filled bubble exit!
