Sarah and Michael got married on the beach in Oak Island on a warm and cloudy day in September. They had their ceremony facing the ocean, as the tide pools showed up and surrounded them as they said their vows, followed by a reception inside at the venue 801 Ocean. As a full time wedding photographer, I’ve always believed that love can shine through any weather, and honestly all you can do is embrace the unpredictability of the skies and, well, life. It’s all about your attitude – and Sarah and Michael continued with their outdoor ceremony as planned, with huge smiles on their faces, even though we all got a little wet. It was totally worth it. After dinner, we walked back out to the water for some sunset portraits. Just as we found the ideal spot overlooking the ocean, the skies opened up. What started as a light drizzle quickly escalated into a full-on downpour. The whole reception watched us sprint back to the venue but it was too late – we were totally soaked. Honestly, some of my favorite photos and my absolute favorite moments from their day will be from those few minutes of running through the rain. Sometimes the best moments come when you least expect them. Congrats to this wonderful couple, and of course, keep scrolling to see my FAVORITE thing: the 35mm film photos!
